Privacy Policy for Quietude
Last Updated: February 16, 2026
1. Introduction
Quietude ("the App") is an iOS focus and noise-monitoring application developed by Ilia Usatov ("Developer"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our App.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and maintaining the highest standards of data security. Privacy is the core feature of Quietude. We believe that your acoustic environment is private, and we have designed the App to ensure it stays that way.
2. Data We Collect
2.1 Data We Do NOT Collect
Quietude is designed with privacy-first principles. We do NOT:
- Record or Save Audio: We never record, save, or transmit your audio to any server.
- Use Analytics Service: We do not use Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel, or Amplitude to track your behavior.
- Collect Advertising Data: We do not collect data for advertising purposes and do not use your data to serve ads.
- Require Personal Accounts: We do not require you to create an account, or provide your name, email, or phone number.
2.2 Microphone and Audio Data (Local Only)
This is the most critical part of our privacy commitment.
- Purpose: The App uses your device's microphone strictly to measure the decibel level (loudness) of your environment in real-time.
- Local Processing: All audio processing happens in your device's Random Access Memory (RAM). The audio stream is analyzed for volume amplitude and then immediately discarded.
- No Storage: No audio data is ever written to your device's storage (disk) or uploaded to any cloud server.
- No Speech Recognition: We do not analyze the content of speech or identify specific sounds. We only measure how loud it is.
2.3 Technical Data (Stored Locally on Your Device Only)
The App collects the following technical data, which is stored exclusively on your device:
- Noise Statistics: Session history, average noise levels (in dB), and duration of sessions.
- Settings Preferences: Your noise threshold settings, theme choices, and notification preferences.
This data is used solely to provide the App's functionality and is never transmitted to external servers maintained by the Developer.
2.4 Health Data and Apple HealthKit Integration
2.4.1 Purpose of HealthKit Integration
Quietude integrates with Apple HealthKit to help you track your focus and mindfulness practice.
- The App requests write-only access to the "Mindful Minutes" category in Apple Health.
- When you complete a focus session, the App records the duration as Mindful Minutes in your Health app.
2.4.2 What We Do NOT Do With Health Data
Quietude does NOT read your existing health data. We do not access:
- Your heart rate or pulse
- Your sleep analysis
- Your physical activity data
- Any other medical data
2.4.3 No Use for Advertising
Data obtained from HealthKit will NEVER be used for marketing, advertising, or data mining.
2.5 Payment Processing and Subscriptions (RevenueCat)
The App uses RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions and purchase validation. This ensures you receive the features you have paid for across all your devices.
2.5.1 Data Processed by RevenueCat
RevenueCat collects the following anonymous data:
- App User ID: A randomly generated unique identifier for your app installation. We do not link this to your real name or email.
- Purchase History: Details of your transactions (e.g., "Quietude Pro Annual", expiration date).
- Device Information: Operating system version and app version (for debugging).
- Country/Region: The storefront country of your Apple ID (e.g., "US").
2.5.2 Apple's Role
Apple handles the actual payment processing. The Developer and RevenueCat do NOT have access to:
- Your credit card information
- Your billing address
- Your full transaction history
3. How We Use Your Data
3.1 Local App Functionality
We use the data collected to:
- Provide real-time feedback on your environment (Quiet vs. Noisy).
- Visualize your session history and statistics.
- Validate your subscription status to unlock Pro features.
3.2 No Telemetry or Crash Reporting
We do not use third-party crash reporting services (like Crashlytics or Sentry). All error handling is performed locally on your device to ensure no data leaks.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
4.1 Local Data
All session data and noise statistics are stored locally on your device via SwiftData. This data persists until you manually delete the App. Uninstalling the App permanently deletes all local data.
4.2 HealthKit Data
Data written to Apple Health resides in the Health app database. Deleting the Quietude App does not delete data from Apple Health; you must delete that manually in the Health app if desired.
4.3 Subscription Data
Subscription records are retained by Apple and RevenueCat to ensure you can restore your purchase if you switch phones. You can manage this data via your Apple ID settings.
5. Your Privacy Rights
5.1 Control Over Your Data
- Microphone: You can revoke microphone access at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
- HealthKit: You can revoke HealthKit access in iOS Settings > Privacy > Health.
- App Data: You can delete all app data by deleting the App.
5.2 CCPA and GDPR
Since we collect no personally identifiable information (PII) and store everything locally or anonymously:
- Right to Know/Access: All data we have is already visible to you within the App's History screen.
- Right to Delete: You can exercise this by uninstalling the App.
- Right to Opt-Out: We do not sell your data, so there is no need to opt-out.
6. Security
We take security seriously:
- Encryption: Local data is encrypted by the iOS file protection system.
- No Server Database: We do not maintain a user database to be hacked.
- Network Security: Communication with Apple and RevenueCat uses HTTPS encryption.
7. Third-Party Services Summary
The ONLY third-party services we use are:
- Apple (HealthKit & StoreKit): For health integration and payments.
- RevenueCat: For subscription infrastructure.
We do NOT use:
- ❌ Facebook SDK
- ❌ Google Analytics / Firebase
